Ololo Safari Lodge & Farm

A twenty-acre working farm and old homestead on the park’s edge, bought by the Chapman family in 2008 and opened as a lodge in 2013. Fourteen units in six types: seven Stable Rooms in the farm’s original stone stables, three tented cottages under makuti thatch, a Terrace Suite, a Tower Suite with a rooftop terrace facing the Ngong Hills, a three-bedroom cottage in the old hay shed, and a Family Wing sleeping five. The farm feeds the kitchen and the furniture is built in Ololo’s own workshop on site. There’s a pool, a spa and a gift shop. Game drives run into the park, and the lodge puts town and both airports at roughly forty-five minutes, Nairobi traffic permitting.

Giraffe Manor

Giraffe Manor stands in Nairobi’s Langata suburb, in twelve acres of garden inside a larger belt of indigenous forest, next door to the AFEW Giraffe Centre — a city address rather than a park one. Twelve rooms are split between the original 1932 manor house and a matching wing added in 2011. The resident herd of Nubian giraffe is what people come for: they walk up to the windows at breakfast and put their heads through. Rates are all-inclusive and cover entry to the Giraffe Centre and use of the pool, gym and spa at The Retreat, eighty metres away. About forty minutes from the airport.
