Baobab Tented Camp

Lemala Mpingo Ridge Lodge

Tarangire Treetops
Built entirely on stilts among the baobabs of a private concession bordering Tarangire National Park, Elewana Tarangire Treetops is one of Tanzania’s original treehouse camps. Just twenty raised suites blend into the canopy, connected by elevated walkways, with a treehouse lounge overlooking a waterhole that draws elephant and other wildlife right up to camp.
Swala Camp
Swala Camp, an A&K Sanctuary, sits on the edge of the Gursi swamp in the far south-west of Tarangire, well away from the busier north — two to three hours by game drive from the main gate, or an hour from Kuro airstrip. Twelve tents on raised platforms under acacias, a communal deck beneath a baobab, and a waterhole in front of camp that brings elephant and impala in on their own terms. Walking safaris and night drives are available alongside the usual game drives.
Kuro
Kuro sits inside Tarangire National Park itself, six tents strung along a riverside grove with a family tent among them, taking sixteen adults at most. Elephants walk through camp, and the position gives it access to the Silale and Gursi swamps, where game gathers as the dry season sets in. Days run to game drives, night drives and walks with an armed scout, with more than 550 bird species recorded in the park. An Elephant Treehouse platform stands a few hundred metres off, overlooking a dry riverbed. Open June to mid-March, and children are welcome from eight.
Nimali Tarangire
A permanent camp of eight tented suites on a private reserve along Tarangire National Park’s eastern boundary, about 2.5 hours by road from Arusha. Two of the suites are two-bedroom family units. Each has a private deck over the riverbed and an en-suite bathroom, and an underground hide lets guests watch wildlife at close range. Besides wildlife drives by day and night, the camp offers walking safaris, bush breakfasts, hot-air balloon flights and Maasai cultural visits.
Nimali Ilaroi House
Ilaroi House is a private house rather than a camp, taken by one party at a time, with five suites for up to ten guests. It stands in a 10,000-acre private conservancy on the Maasai Steppe, bordering Tarangire National Park and about 160 km from Arusha, with its own airstrip. A host, private guide, chef and wellness specialist come with the house, which has an infinity pool, a hot tub, a wine cellar and a cigar lounge. Wildlife drives by day and night, walking safaris, bush dining and Maasai community visits are offered.
Conserve Safari Tarangire
A tented camp inside Tarangire National Park, beside the Tarangire River. It has 12 suites: ten Luxury Safari Suites of 45 m² and two Family Suites of 90 m² with two rooms each. Every suite has a private deck, with seasonal river views. The camp takes up to 42 guests. Meals, a full bar and butler service are included, and the wine list was curated by Raimonds Tomsons, World’s Best Sommelier 2023. Private bush dinners, sundowners and guided walking safaris can be arranged.
Mwamba Lodge
Mwamba Lodge stands in the Randilen Wildlife Management Area, near Tarangire National Park and about forty minutes’ drive from the park gate. It has eight rooms, each with wilderness views, a private veranda and an en-suite bathroom. An infinity pool, a restaurant, a bar and a firepit look out over the bush. Game drives and nature walks start from the lodge. It is the first lodge in Tanzania for Great Lakes Safaris, the Ugandan operator behind the Great Lakes Collection.
Siringit Tarangire Camp
Siringit Tarangire Camp has eight tented suites, one of them a family suite, inside Tarangire National Park, about 30 minutes from Kuro airstrip. It is set along elephant corridors, and the camp looks out over the Silale Swamps, where elephants gather through much of the year. The tents were made by local craftsmen, and the camp runs on solar power with battery storage, filters its own water and recycles greywater. Days are spent on guided wildlife drives, with seasonal birding around the swamps. Stays are full board with drinks included. It belongs to the Siringit Collection.
Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge
Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge stands on a low ridge on the southern side of the Tarangire River, in the central part of Tarangire National Park and about 30 minutes from the main gate. Its tents are raised on wooden platforms in a baobab grove crossed by elephant paths, and look west towards the wall of the Great Rift Valley. Ten tented suites, two interconnecting family suites and a honeymoon suite with an outdoor shower were built with Tanzanian materials and craftsmanship. The lodge has its own water source, a rim-flow pool, in-room charging and solar power with a backup generator, and is open all year. Walks, night drives, balloon flights and bush meals can be added. The nearest airstrip is Kuro.
