Gorongosa is one of the most inspiring conservation stories on the planet. Once among Africa’s finest parks, it lost as much as 95% of its large animals during Mozambique’s civil war — and has since been brought back to life through a landmark partnership with the Carr Foundation that ties wildlife recovery to community health, education and farming. Today lion, elephant, buffalo and huge antelope herds again fill the floodplains beneath Mount Gorongosa, with extraordinary biodiversity and a genuine sense of witnessing a wilderness reborn.
