Chelinda Lodge
Chelinda Lodge sits high on the Nyika plateau, in a pocket of pine and hagenia woodland above open montane grassland. Eight log cabins of timber, pine and stone sleep 16 guests in total, each with a fireplace, a seating area and a viewing deck. Meals are served indoors by the fire or outside on the big deck, and the nights are cold enough for a hot water bottle in bed. Days are spent hiking or mountain biking the grassland tracks, fly fishing the dam, birding among more than 400 recorded species, and looking for roan, eland and zebra. Nyika also holds one of Africa’s highest leopard densities, and night drives are on offer.
Chelinda Camp
Chelinda Camp is the simpler and more flexible option on the plateau, a short way from the lodge and looking out over the Chelinda dam and the grassland ridges behind it. There are four chalets with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a lounge and a small kitchen, which suits families and self-catering groups, plus six en-suite twin rooms that share a dining room, bar and lounge with an open fire. Camping is possible too. The activities are the same as at the lodge: hiking and mountain biking on the plateau, fly fishing in the dam, birding and game drives for roan, eland and zebra.
