The closest savanna park to Kampala, Lake Mburo is small but charming — a patchwork of acacia woodland, rolling grassland and shimmering lakes. It’s the best place in Uganda to see zebra, eland and impala, with no elephant or lion to keep you in the vehicle, so walking safaris, horseback rides and boat trips (for hippo, crocodile and birds) are all on offer. A relaxed, activity-rich stop that breaks the journey to Bwindi and the southwest.
