The Waterberg is a striking red sandstone plateau rising abruptly 200 metres above the surrounding Kalahari plains. Its sheer cliffs and spring-fed slopes have made it a vital sanctuary for endangered species — white and black rhino, sable, roan and tsessebe — reintroduced and protected on the plateau top. With good hiking, birding and easy access, it’s a scenic, malaria-free stop in central Namibia.
