Maputo National Park is a rare combination of restored bush and wild Indian Ocean coast, a short drive south of the capital. Under a long-running Peace Parks partnership, elephant, hippo and antelope have rebounded across a mosaic of grassland, lakes and forest, while the protected shoreline shelters nesting loggerhead and leatherback turtles, whales offshore and superb diving at Ponta do Ouro. Easily reached overland from South Africa, it’s an accessible, up-and-coming bush-and-beach gem.
