Zambia

Zambia offers a safari experience that many consider the most authentic in Africa — walking safaris in untouched wilderness, canoe trips on the Zambezi, and wildlife encounters shaped by exceptional guiding rather than vehicle density. This is not the easiest destination to reach, but travelers who commit to Zambia return from it changed. The leopard sightings at South Luangwa, the canoe trips of the Lower Zambezi, and the floodplains of Kafue’s Busanga Plains are experiences with few parallels anywhere on the continent.

Game Reserves & National Parks

South Luangwa National Park

South Luangwa National Park

The birthplace of the walking safari and one of Africa’s finest game viewing destinations. The Luangwa River and its many oxbow lagoons create extraordinary wildlife corridors — the park has Africa’s highest hippo density and one of its most reliable leopard populations. Guiding standards are extraordinarily high: South Luangwa’s walking safari guides are considered among the most knowledgeable in Africa, producing an intensity of wildlife experience impossible from a vehicle.

Lower Zambezi National Park

Lower Zambezi National Park

One of Africa’s most cinematic safari destinations — the Zambezi River, flanked by escarpment on one side and Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools on the other, provides a stage for exceptional canoe safaris and boat-based wildlife viewing. Paddling past bathing elephants, surfacing hippos and basking crocodiles at water level offers a fundamentally different perspective than any vehicle-based safari. Tiger fishing on the Zambezi is an added adventure for fishing enthusiasts.

Kafue National Park

Kafue National Park

Zambia’s largest national park and one of the most undervisited major parks in Africa — twice the size of Kruger with a fraction of the visitors. The Busanga Plains in the north are Kafue’s crown jewel: vast floodplains that flood seasonally and dry to create one of Africa’s most productive wildlife viewing environments, with cheetah, lion, red lechwe and sitatunga in extraordinary concentrations. Remote, requiring commitment to reach, but profoundly rewarding for those who do.

North Luangwa National Park

North Luangwa National Park

The raw, untouched sibling of South Luangwa — a true wilderness where most of the park is accessible only on foot. Buffalo herds here number in the thousands, attracting large lion prides and packs of wild dog. Access is strictly controlled and extremely limited. Only a handful of camps operate, and most are open only in the dry season. This is safari for purists who prioritise genuine wilderness over comfort.
